Straw Market

Well after a fruitless search, we ended up ordering what we need for the new stay from the states, hopefully it will be in time and we can have the stay fixed by the end of the month. We talked to Jackie this morning and told us to go to downtown and check it out, so we put on our walking shores and off we went. It is very cool, there is so much to see, the Straw market was huge and the building it was in was so well built, we were amazed, most of buildings here are very damaged or just totally run down from all the storms and hurricanes so to see such a well built building was a shock! After 911, just a week to the day, the old Straw Market burned to the ground, all the locals that had shops in it lost everything!
The new straw market

Look how far it goes in the distance! After the downtown we walked inland, we want to see the real Nassau, not the tourist area,  we found a local restaurant and stopped there for lunch, they only had four things on the menu! I had the jerked chicken, and it was fabulous! They have the BEST coleslaw here in the Bahamas too, now I have never been a fan of coleslaw, but I wish I could bottle this stuff! delish!!
We found the local library too and it was so neat, the building is round with lots of gingerbread on it!

we walked all day and on the way back to the boat we walked by a bakery that sells Bahamian Rum Cakes, made right there in the shop, the man that owns it, Simon, told us he knows a man that might be able to help us!

this is how this mail comes in and out

Loved this!!
