We left the Chub Cay anchorage Sunday morning on January 26 and headed to Frazer's Hog Cay. The sail was wonderful and we we anchored up by noon. Then the wind died and let me tell you the bugs were BAD! Hungry little buggers. So we went below and had lunch and then when the wind picked back up we put Rinky in the water and went to shore. There are very few houses on this part of the island and we saw no people, but the water is simply wonderful! So clear you can see the bottom some 40plus feet down We scooted all over the shallows and off to some of the outer islands, there were so many starfish, unbelievable!
We are slowly making our way up the Berry Islands the only spoiler is most of the islands in the Bahamas are now owned by big company's, mega wealthy and the cruise ship lines, so we have not been able to go ashore and see them. I think the Bahama government has sold off most of its peoples heritage, all the people who live on these islands in the Bahamas now work for the clubs or for the mega rich on private islands, they have remade their people into slaves to the rich.
We anchored up behind Little Whale Cay, it is also a private Island that was once owned by Wallace Groves, the founder of Freeport, Grand Bahamas, and it has a elaborate aviary with scores of semi-rare birds. But alas, no one can go ashore to see any of this! The only thing you can see from your boat is the locals working, keeping the grounds!
If you are a diver or a sport fisher, this is the place for you, close to the U.S. and some of clearest water, the water drops some 100+ft just off from all the Islands, so the diving and fishing is fantastic!
Set sail this morning after breakfast for Little Harbor Cay, there is a good anchorage there next to Cabbage Cay. After a very nice motor, no wind, we anchored and took the dink to Chester Darvilles dock, he and his wife, have Flo's Conch Bar and Restaurant on the island. there were as many as 20 or so people that lived on this island, but after hurricane Andrew all have left and there is only Chester and his wife Lovely that now live on the hill above the dock, along with their chickens,
ducks, geese, dogs, and other such animals! After meeting them and some other cruisers that were
having lunch, we took the dink around all the little Cays and inlets, I got to see my first live conch,
they are so cute, they have little eyes that look at you when you pick them up. I do not think I could kill them! Even though I love conch! I took all my books and movies that we have read and seen and gave them to Chester and Lovely and we watched the sun set from the restaurant windows, people pay millions to have a view like they do!

Woke this morning to the wind and the current making the boat do a uncomfortable dance, so we took it easy and around 10 or so the wind died down and we took the dink to Chester's Dock to deliver some cinnamon to Lovely, she had none and needed some to bake her bread. When we got there there was a cute little catamaran that had just come in to get out of the weather. The man on it mentioned
for us to come over and we went over to meet him, his name is Dave and he is from Jacksonville, Fl. He is headed to Nassau to meet up with his girlfriend for awhile, he told us of a few trails to go on to see the island and later after lunch we went back to the island to hike a bit. Well when we got back,
Dave had lodged a piece of wood in his eye and it took Pierre and myself to get it out. As a thank you, he showed me how to clean a conch and it was not as bad as I thought it would be! Still..not sure if I could do it or not! After the conch lesson we hiked around the island, the underbrush is very
dense and the coast is coral, but it very beautiful!
Friday the last day of January
We went to the island today and fed the chickens, ducks, geese and gave the them all some water, Chester and Lovely have been gone for 4 days and I was worried about the animals, they have had no food or water! Pierre and Dave smashed up coconuts for the animals and we gave them fresh water and even the dog ate coconut, we did not have anything else to feed him. I found some papaya plants
with fruit and we got two! So excited....we have not any fresh fruit for awhile...After that we went
fishing, I caught a mess of fish, some (what the Bahamians call yellow tail snapper) and some other fish. We used conch for bait! Hopeful the wind will lay down and we can head for Nassau. The wind..of course..has been very bad!
Woke up to one of the water tanks dry, the new water heater ruptured again and drained out the water tank, can not do anything about it now so we are stuck till we get to Nassau. We went in and Chester and Lovely were back and we made dinner plans with them, they wanted to do something for my birthday, so Pierre made some lamb kabobs and Dave made some pork and Chester cooked other stuff and we went in and had dinner, they watched the game, but we went back to the boat.

Hurray!! The wind Gods were with us and we set sail this morning for Nassau. After a wonderful sail
we reached Nassau around 3:00pm, we found a marina that was somewhat affordable, because with the water heater and a almost busted stay we have some work to do on the boat...so sweet...I get to be in a marina for my birthday...and they have wifi....THE best present ever! Nassau is the capital of The Bahamas and is located on New Providence in the northwestern Bahamas. Though one of the country's smallest islands, it is home to more than two-thirds of the population. The island is 21 miles long and 7 mile wide at its widest point!
