Wittier Alaska

Whittier Alaska is on the northeast shore of the Kenai Peninsula, at the head of Passage Canal, it is a small quiet place and quite beautiful, it is also a port for the Alaska Marine Highway. The only land access is through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, this tunnel is a mixed-use road and rail tunnel, so you have to wait in line till the oncoming traffic is clear then you go and become the oncoming traffic for the other side..its way cool..
This is where we stayed while we waited for the ferry to take us to Valdez. Its a tiny town, with only about 100 permanent residents. It swells to about 300 in the summertime. But it is breathtaking with Prince William Sound on one side and mountains all around the other sides with waterfalls cascading down all the mountainsides! Beauty overload!
I had booked us a passage while we were in Anchorage so we went a day early to make  sure we would make the ferry. There is only primitive camping there, but for one night…

Walking around we ran into some Stellar Jays.. to me these jays are one of the prettiest jays..this was Mom feeding her baby

The next morning we boarded the ferry bound for Valdez Alaska!
It is an 8 hour trip.
We had a blast.. I ran about the ship and shot tons of pictures!
Valdez here we come!
